Where would you like to visit? Good morning, all the distinguished judges. I am NO.4 candidate, applying for a teachingposition in junior school. My topic today is where would you like to visit. It is taken from Lesson1 of Unit 7 in Student Book 9 published by People’s Education Press. I have decided to teach thelesson from four parts:Part One ——Teaching background1. Analysis of the Teaching MaterialThe main content of this unit is “where would you like to visit?”The topic of Lesson one isvacations. This unit seems independent of its following units, but it closely connected with itsprevious units, which deals with the topic of food and music. All these are closely related to ourdaily lifes. 2. Students’ learning backgroundStudents of grade 3 in junior school have comparatively solid foundation of English. Theyhave learnt English for years and thus have got basic language skills. They are eager to learn, butat the same time easily distract from unfamiliar reading materials. Thus they need teacher’s help.In the teaching process , we teachers could give them encouragement and instructions in theirstudy.3. Teaching objectivesThe teaching aim's basis is established according to Junior School English syllabus' provision.1. Knowledge objectives(1) To study the new words “beautiful”, “interesting” ,“exciting “and “relaxing”.(2) To learn and master the phrases “would you like to…..?” “I’d like to…..”, etc.2. Ability objectives(1) To develop the students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing.(2) To train the students’ ability of working in pairs.(3) To develop the students’ abilities of communication by learning the useful structures.3. Moral objectives(1) Through different teaching methods to make students be interested in study.(2) Love to know more knowledge about traveling and dare to express their opinions in English.(3) Encourage the students to love nature and travel more.4. Teaching Key Points and Difficult PointsThe teaching keys and difficult points’ basis is established according to Lesson 1 in theteaching material's position and function.1. Key points:(1).Be able to express words, phrases and sentences on traveling in English.(2). Know about how to express your likes.2. Difficult points:Be able to talk about their own traveling experience .Part Two ——Teaching evaluationIn the whole process, students will be taught with different evaluative system. Thoughevaluation varies from each individual part, formative evaluation will play the major role. Bydoing this, I could clearly acknowledge the weak points of their study and improve my teaching

plan properly. In the lead-in part, I will invite some inactive students to answer one or two easyquestion, such as “Do you love traveling?”or “Have you ever been to some place?”These yes-or-no questions are quite simple. It functions just as a warming-up engine, creating a pleasantatmosphere. At the end of class, I will encourage some good students to tell their own experienceabout traveling by using new words or phrases I have taught in the class. After that I will invitesome students to evaluate their classmate’s performance and then give them a profound feedback. Part Three ——Teaching procedure1. Teaching MethodsI will adopt task-based language teaching method and the situational approach to improve thestudents’ enthusiasm. I shall design a variety of activities to make the students learn to play andplay to learn.2. Teaching steps(1). Lead-in Here, I will play a small video about traveling around the world and ask inactivestudents to tell me which country did it mention, and which country they like best. Iftheir answers are right, I will give them encouragement.By watching video and answer these simple questions, the students can be interested in it and paytheir attention to our class easily.(2). PresentationThe above video will be played again to help students to find out the words andphrases they do not know. Students would be asked to guess their meaning fromcontext. I will check their answers and invite them to consult dictionary if they are notright. Next, I will ask students which sentence pattern does the video use frequently. Thus lead today’s grammar focus: where would you like to visit? Where would youlike to go on vacation? I’d like to ..... I hope to go to ......Then, I will ask students toread in lines.(3). PracticeIn this part,I will ask students to practice conversations with his partner, tell him orher which place he would like to visit and why. This pair work gives students morefreedom to train by themselves instead of teacher’s constant duck-filling instilling.(4). ConsolidationHere , I would employ task-based approach and divide students into different groupsto tell their own experience of traveling. I will choose several good groups to give apresentation on the stage and ask students to judge their classmates’ performance. After that I will give them a profound feedback.(5).SummaryI will invite several students to summarize what they have learnt today andappropriately add to their missing viewpoints.(6). HomeworkAt last, I will assign students to collect some beautiful pictures and useful expressionson traveling. Thus next class each student could describe the pictures by using theseexpressions. Part Four ——Teaching Characteristic
